Expressing Emotions with Art
Welcome to Art Healing with me, Laura, an Intuitive Art Practitioner based in Qawra, Malta.
I have completed numerous courses to learn about different art techniques that can be used to connect with your inner self and identify different feelings and emotions. Please note this is different from seeing an Art Therapist, who has studied psychology and can offer psychological advice.
Theraputic Art Practitioners are trained in various techniques that act as a form of communication with your feelings. Should there be any concerns observed during the session, you may be advised to seek the assistance of a psychologist, or encouraged to seek help from a trained councellor who can work thorough the issues you may identify.
Expressing emotions through art is not about creating a beautiful piece of art, the objective is to engage your senses and engage your parasympathetic system, bringing clarity and healing when you reflect on the session.
Expressing Emotions Through Art allows individuals to convey thoughts, emotions, and experiences that may be challenging to express verbally. The created art becomes a means for communication, allowing exploration of their inner world. The practitioner collaborates with the client to establish a therapeutic relationship, discussing and interpreting the artwork to gain insights into emotions, behaviours, and conflicts, helping bring clarity and perspective.
Engaging in the creative process fosters self-exploration and insights, providing a secure space for individuals to delve into their thoughts and emotions. The act of creating art can empower individuals, fostering a sense of accomplishment and boosting self-esteem, particularly beneficial for those who find verbal therapy challenging.
Art healing techniques often integrate mindfulness and relaxation, focusing on the present moment and offering a healthy coping mechanism for stress and anxiety. It is adaptable to various cultural contexts, promoting inclusivity through non-verbal expression that suits diverse communication styles and abilities. This is why it is a valuable tool for managing many mental health challenges both in its accessibility and its ability to engage your less active or hidden aspects.
What does a session with me look like?
As a self taught artist, I am constantly trying out new techniques to master and enjoy the variety of creativity this world has to offer. I really do understand that not everyone has that natural creative instinct, but that concerned me. Art healing should be accessible to everyone, so I carefully developed 9 different sessions focussed on common issues that cause us to get stuck. This takes the surprise out of what is expected of you, and it allows you to choose the method or the purpose of the session, giving you more control. The 9 sessions target the following areas:
- Identifying emotions: Are you confused about what you are feeling and struggling to understand your own chaotic thoughts?
- Chakra balancing: Using neurotrophic techniques we can identify where our energy is stuck or over focussed, giving us insight to balance and clear.
- Family and relationship dynamics: What role do people play in your life and how much importance do you give them and yourself?
- Letting Go: Do you need to release some trapped emotions around a situation?
- Calm and Balance: This technique helps to balance your nervous system t bring much needed calm and tranquility back into focus.
- Power Play: A really positive session used to bring life into an area you wish to develop further.
- Rebuilding: In this session the aim is to control how you see the future looking, and connecting with freedom and forward motion.
- My Rocks: This beautiful exercise helps you determine where you are distributing your energy giving you better clarity on the weight you carry.
- Communicate with Pain: Do you feel really controlled by a painful feeling or actual physical pain, that you want to understand better?
All sessions last roughly 1.5hrs and are 1 to 1. I can also organise group sessions for those who wish to try something new with a group of friends, and feel supported at the same time.
Sessions are held in Valetta.
